Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour victory, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
